One of the most famous Korean fishcake(Eomuk) company SAMJIN

There is a food called "Eomuk" in Korea. When you visit Korea, it is the food you must try. This food is kind of street food but you can also enjoy it in the restaurant. Anyway, If you leave Korea without eating this food, you are going to regret later. When you are in Korea, you must try this.

 

The official name of this food in English is "Eomuk". "Eo" means fish. "muk" means kind of curd. Some people calll this food fishcake or fish curd but it's not enough to explain this food. I recommend you to call this food "Eomuk" in Korea. Then everybody will understand. "Eomuk" is fries made by mashed fish and flour. There are so many kinds of eomuk according to ingredients.

 

There are several major eomuk companies in Korea. Surely, as street food, you can also enjoy eomuk anytime, anywhere in Korea. There are major brand eomuk company selling this in the department store and a big mart. I visited SAMJIN eomuk shop in one department store.

 

The thing impressive is they make their own eomuk in the shop. There is windows like above, we can see how they make eomuk. This is for showing how clean they manage things. I like this kind of system. It's like the confidence of big company. Everything is clean and neat. That is why Korean people like SAMJIN eomuk.

 

 

There are so many kinds of eomuk according to which ingredients they used. The name of each eomuk goes after the additional ingredient. For example, if they use hot pepper, they call it hot pepper eomuk. If they use cheese, they call it cheese eomuk. The price starts 1,300 won(1.1 USD). With additional ingredient, it becomes 2,000 won(1.7 USD) or 2,500(2.1 USD) won. You can have it right away as snack or side dish with 1 bowl of rice.

 

They put sausage, rice cake, etc. Sausage roll eomuk is a bit big and its price is 2,800won (2.4 USD). This kind of eomuk is good enough for one meal if you have it 2 or 3. I like this eomuk, too. I can enjoy eomuk and sausage, rice cake at the same time.

 

 

Eomuk also evolves. They try so many ingredients as above. They put many food materials and try to sell them to people. It is very colorful and attracts people. Depending on the color of bell pepper, it shows green, red and yellow. So creative, I like them.

 

 

 

The price of eomuk goes from 1 USD to 4 USD. It varies according to size, ingredients. This company started from 1953. It's been 70 years over 3 generations. There are other big eomuk companies such as Goraesak eomuk,  Hwangong eomuk in Korea, too.

 

 

Above eomuk, they call it premium eomuk bar. It has a stick and easy to grab, eat it. They used conch, squid, shrimp and a bit expensive. This kind of eomuk is very good for snack. You can make your hunger right away with one stick of eomuk. Sometimes, I have it as snack.

 

This eomuk pack is what I like, too. I sometimes buy this pack of eomuk. It has seasoning inside and ready to cook. All you have to do is just prepare pot and water. Boil water first and put seasoning and eomuk, it is so delicious eomuk soup. One pack is 14,500 won (12 USD). It's good for 3 or 4 people. I enjoy this so much with one bowl of rice. You also can enjoy this eomuk soup with SOJU (Korean famous liquor) or beer.
